Live production will feature our teacher advisor for Wafu school, Fusako Hoyrup.

Fusako Hoyrup is the founder and President of the California Chapter of the Wafu School of Ikebana. Her study of ikebana began over 60 years ago in Japan where she studied under the 2nd Headmaster. She holds the Shukan Degree which is the highest achievement level in the Wafu school. Soon after moving to California, she founded the California Chapter of Wafu Ikebana. This chapter celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its founding in 2020. She has taught thousands of ikebana students during that time and was instrumental in introducing Ikebana to the adult and community programs of the public school system of the South San Francisco Bay Area. Hoyrup Sensei has received numerous awards and commendations throughout the years including Teacher of the Year, San Jose City College Outstanding Instructor, Distinguished Artist of the Year, the City of Cupertino CREST award, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, Asian American Hero Award, entry to the Bunka Hall of Fame, Friend of Education, and proclamations for her contributions by the mayors of Cupertino. The Consul General of Japan in San Francisco awarded her an official commendation for her work promoting cultural relations and friendship between Japan and California. In 2019, Hoyrup Sensei received the most prestigious Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays award which was conferred upon her by the government and Emperor of Japan for her contributions to the promotion of Japanese culture in the USA and abroad. She continues to be an active member and advisor to Ikebana International San Francisco Bay Area Chapter.
